the tribes name in their own language is Apsáalooke, meaning "children of the large-beaked bird".
they had migrated from the eastern woodland areas. the were pushed to the west by the Lakota (Sioux), who were being pushed due to the european/american expansion. the Sioux took over the Crow territory from the black hills of north dakota to the big horn mountains of montana.
the crow eventually divided into three groups, The Mountain Crow, The River Crow, and Kicked in the Bellies.
